Third female UN worker dies in Afghanistan

KABUL, July 4: A third woman working with a UN team to register voters for Afghanistan's upcoming elections has died of injuries she sustained in a bomb blast last month , while more explosive devices were found in eastern Jalalabad, officials said on Sunday.

The first bomb, attached to a vehicle carrying female voter registration officers to work in Jalalabad, exploded on June 16 and killed two women and injured 11 others.

"Yesterday (Saturday) one of the women that had been wounded, seriously wounded, during the Jalalabad attack on the minibus on the 16th of June has died," UN spokesman Manoel de Almeida e Silva said.

Separately, two more bombs were discovered and defused following the attack on the minibus and two other blasts in Jalalabad on Thursday that killed four people and injured 24 others, police said. -AFP
