SAHIWAL, June 29: An audit team detected on Tuesday a fraud of Rs11 million at Habib Bank Limited's Kot Khadim Ali Shah branch. The team from the head office conducted the special audit and estimated the embezzlement.

The team has found two managers Majid Shah and Anjum Kamiana (who is currently posted at the branch), and four other bankers involved in the fraud. According to reports, cashier Falaksher had issued receipts of payments to the depositors, but allegedly appropriated Rs11 million. Branch manager Anjum Kamiana detected this fraud few days ago and asked the cashier to account for it.

The cashier returned Rs700,000 to the manager, claiming that he had appropriated only that much amount. Thereafter, the manager buried the issue and the cashier managed to leave the country.

It is learnt that the audit team is planning to hand over the case to the Federal Investigation Agency. When contacted, the suspects denied the charge of embezzlement at the bank.

KIDNAPS SISTER: A police constable allegedly kidnapped at Pak Avenue Housing Scheme on Tuesday his sister, who had married a man of her choice. Reports said constable Javed Murtaza's sister Nusrat married Muhammad Azam Sherazi of her own free will and was living with him at the housing scheme.

Annoyed with the sister's decision, Murtaza along with his four accomplices took her away from her house by force. Farid Town police have registered a case.

DEATH SENTENCE: An additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday awarded death sentence to a man and 35-year rigorous imprisonment to his son for killing a farmer. Each of them will have to pay Rs100,000 as fine.

The court, however, acquitted the other two accused, Sharif and Bashir, giving them the benefit of the doubt. Fateh Muhammad and his son Zafar Iqbal, a student, killed farmer Riaz Baig and injured his brother Iqbal over enmity at Chak 108/7-R on May 13, 2002. Harappa police registered a case against the accused and arrested them.
