CHITRAL, June 23: Three women of a family committed suicide by jumping into the River Chitral at a remote village of Gohkir on Tuesday night. Local people managed to retrieve one of the bodies whereas search was continuing for the recovery of two other bodies.

The women have been identified as wife of Khalilullah and her two daughters-in-law who were stated to be wives of Habibullah and Hajeebullah. The reason for their act is stated to be a domestic dispute over the engagement of a daughter of Habibullah over which the female family members were annoyed.

It is learnt that the victims were against the match and they had informed their male family members that they would commit suicide if the girl was married against their will.

Police officials of the Mulkhow police station reached the spot after 24 hours of the incident due to remoteness of the Gohkir valley, which is about 45 kms from main Chitral and there is no metalled road to the village.

Police claimed that they would first conduct an inquiry about the motive behind the suicide and would then fix responsibility on any person. Meanwhile, internet facilities in Chitral remained suspended for the third day on Wednesday, causing problems for users.

The people of the area who remain in touch with the rest of the country through the internet, have been facing numerous problems due to the suspension of the service.
