FAISALABAD, June 22: The recent downpour has left several parts of the district under knee-deep water, exposing the claims of the local administration and other civic agencies.
During a round of the district on Tuesday, pedestrians and motorists were seen facing a great deal of difficulty due to knee-deep water in various localities, especially Allama Iqbal Colony, Ghulam Muhammadabad, Dogranwan Road, Satiana Road, Gulistan Colony, Razaabad and Sohailabad.
The Tehsil Municipal Administration and Wasa have failed to clean the water channels. Traffic jams were also witnessed at major thoroughfares due to accumulation of rainwater.
Traffic was seen moving at a snail's pace on the circular, railway, Tata Bazaar, Ghulam Muhammadabad and Nazimabad roads, and some areas of Madina Town. The rain also affected the electricity system and caused frequent power breakdowns.
The incidents of motorcyclists getting injuries after falling into manholes and hitting haphazardly constructed speed-breakers were also reported from different parts of the city.
Meanwhile, Deputy Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Rana Sanaullah Khan has criticized Wasa for failing to resolve the sewerage problem of these localities.
He said several houses and buildings had developed cracks and could collapse any time due to seepage, accusing the agency authorities of playing the role of silent spectator.
SHOT DEAD: Two persons were gunned down by dacoits in separate incidents here on Monday night. Reports said bandits intercepted Muhammad Saleem, a labourer, on Chak Jhumra Road and shot him dead on resistance. Saqib Mehmood Ansari, owner of a public call office, was killed by gangsters when he resisted a dacoity attempt in Khalidabad.
