KARACHI: Roads in Lyari a shambles

KARACHI, June 20: Residents of Baghdadi Union Council No 5 in Lyari Town have expressed concern over dilapidated conditions of two major roads in the UC. They said Mir Mohammad Baloch and D D Chaudhry roads have been in a deplorable condition since long because of negligence of concerned agencies.

Both these main roads link the old city areas of Lyari and Lea Market, and house government and private schools and the locality's telephone exchange. They complained that Mir Mohammad Baloch Road was closed for traffic for the last several years on the pretext of repair works.

As a result, traffic between Lea Market and Baghdadi, Nawabad, Shah Latif Bhittai Road, Shah Waliullah Road and other parts of the old city areas was being diverted to D D Chaudhary Road.

Area people said a complete chaos was witnessed day and night disrupting people's normal civic life, adding that all appeals for opening Mir Mohammad Baloch Road had gone unheeded.

Had the Mir Mohammad Baloch Road been opened for vehicular traffic, the huge load of traffic plying on DD Chaudhary Road would have been reduced, they further stated. They further complained that no one could move freely on this road because it was without footpaths.
