ISLAMABAD, June 14: An official of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Monday claimed that enough water would be available in water reservoirs of the country to meet requirements in the coming season as there is a record improvement in water inflows in all major rivers, especially the Indus, Jhelum and Kabul rivers, during the past few days.
Talking to APP on Monday the official said that unprecedented improvement had been recorded in water inflows owing to increase in snow melting during the past week. He claimed that water inflows of rivers were increasing day by day and due to better inflows in rivers, the water situation was getting better and further improvement was expected in coming weeks.
Water level at Tarbela, the biggest water reservoir of the country, was recorded at 1371.10 feet which is about 3 feet above the dead level of the dam which is 1369 feet.
According to official data released by Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Monday, water inflow at Tarbela dam was 144,200 cusec while the release was recorded 137,000 cusec to meet requirements of Punjab and Sindh provinces.
Giving details about the Mangla dam, he said water level at the Mangla dam was recorded 1119.40 feet which was more than 79 feet above the dead level of 1040 feet. The water inflow at the dam was 40,872 cusec and outflow was recorded 35,000 cusec.
"We are expecting further water level improvement in the next few days due to remarkable increase of inflow at both major water reservoirs," he said. -APP
