APL clarifies

PESHAWAR, June 14: The Attock Petroleum Limited has clarified its position regarding a news item published in Dawn on Sunday, June 13, about alleged irregularities in export of petroleum products to Afghanistan through fake shipping bills.

The APL said in a press release: "In line with the government decision to allow export of petroleum products to Afghanistan, the Attock Petroleum Limited continues to ensure that it fulfils all the criteria/regulations set down by the Government of Pakistan and its agencies for export of petroleum products in the most transparent manner.

"However, for the purpose of transporting of petroleum products and their due and timely clearance at the Torkham border, the company entered into agreements with various transport contractors and a clearing agents.

"The company would like to state that it is neither party to nor has it in any way conspired, aided or abetted any criminal action alleged in the FIR in any manner whatsoever.

If the contractors and clearing agents are guilty of any criminal misconduct as alleged in the FIR they alone are responsible for their action and the company shall in such a case reserve the right to take necessary legal action (criminal & civil) against the alleged perpetrators.

"APL has complied with all export rules and regulations and carried out all necessary due diligence required on its part. The company and its management would like to reiterate their willingness to continue to extend full cooperation to the Directorate of Customs Intelligence in any manner possible to unmask the perpetrators in the alleged criminal misdemeanours."
