Economic blockade of Wana slated
ISLAMABAD, June 2: An extra ordinary meeting of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) supreme council on Wednesday endorsed the countrywide strike call for Friday to protest against the killing of Mufti Shamzai and suicide attacks which killed scores of people in Karachi and criticised the economic blockade of tribesmen in South Waziristan Agency describing it as a violation of constitutional rights.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting chaired by its acting president Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the alliance secretary general Maulana Fazlur Rahman said, "in the view of the alliance the economic blockade of the tribesmen was unlawful and against the spirit of Islam".
He said that economic blockade was the tool in hands of anti Islam forces which they slap on Muslim countries and individuals to cow them down to achieve their nefarious objectives which should not be used by the rulers of a Muslim state, and that too at the behest of the USA.
It warned against taking any unconstitutional steps to resolve Karachi crisis and demanded removal of MQM's governor against whom a number of murder cases were pending before he was elevated to the office.
Responding to a query, Qazi Hussain Ahmed said,"we are opposed to terrorism as it was undemocratic mean of reaction". He asked the government to invite the PPP being the single largest party, to form its government in Sindh.
Allama Sajid Naqvi said that there was no sectarian issue in Karachi but a criminal group was creating disruption in Karachi in which sensitive agencies involvement could not be ruled out.
