BANNU, May 26: Students of the NWFP University of Engineering and Technology, Bannu campus, have demanded that their examination due after summer vacation should be put off because their courses have not been completed.
First year Civil and Electrical classes had started on the UET Bannu campus in December 2003, with examinations scheduled to be held after the summer vacation. The students said that if the examinations were held after the summer vacation, they would have no time to prepare for them as most of the courses taught at the university were incomplete, or were taught in haste.
The students also complained about the lack of computers and other equipment in the laboratories, saying that only 20 computers were available for 200 students in the computer laboratory. They said that they would launch a protest movement if their demands did not get a yes response.
The Bannu campus coordinator, Engineer Hamidullah, told this reporter that the examinations would take place on the scheduled date as declared by the NWFP UET administration, explaining that it was scheduled for the whole province and could not be extended for the Bannu students only.
It would also delay their results and they would lag behind their batch fellows, he added. Mr Hamidullah said that the UET Bannu campus had planned to introduce semester system from the next academic year.
