QUETTA: Sardar Barozai passes away

QUETTA, May 4: The first speaker of the Balochistan Assembly and a former chief minister, Sardar Mohammad Khan Barozai, died in Sibi on Sunday night after suffering a heart attack, family sources said. He was over 80.

Sardar Barozai started his political career with the now defunct National Awami Party and was elected to the Balochistan Assembly in the 1970 elections. He was elected the first speaker of the first Assembly of Balochistan in 1971.

In 1974, he joined the Pakistan People's Party and was elected the chief minister after elections in 1977 and held the post till the imposition of martial law by Gen Ziaul Haq.

Sardar Mohammad Khan Barozai was elected Balochistan Assembly's speaker for the second time in 1988. He is survived by three sons. His funeral was held in his native village Karak near Sibi on Monday, family sources said.

CONDOLENCES: Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro has expressed shock and grief over the demise of the veteran parliamentarian, Sardar Barozai, adds APP. Senate's deputy chairman Khalilur Rehman and leader of the House in the Senate Wasim Sajjad have also condoled the death of the former chief minister of Balochistan.
