MUZAFFARABAD, April 28: A team of British police officers wound up on Wednesday a training course on forensic sciences for AJK police and judicial service officials with participants and trainers claiming success of the programme.

"We are happy over the willingness from the participants to embrace the scientific techniques in a way they prove beneficial for them in carrying out their job," South Yorkshire Police Detective Superintendent Kevin Morton said.

He was speaking to Dawn at the 0Kashmir Institute of Public Administration where the course was held. AJK Inspector General Police Shahid Hasan was chief guest at the ceremony held to mark the completion of the course.

"Though we were trainers but indeed we have also gained from the experience of participants and we are looking forward towards coming back to this place shortly," Mr Morton said. Mr Morton and seven other officers from South Yorkshire Police, West Midland Police and London Metropolitan Police had arrived here on Tuesday.

The South Yorkshire Police, Mr Morton said, had been designated by the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office as a 'lead force' for a liaison (with the Pakistani police).

"So with colleagues from other (counties') forces, we ought to develop better training in future," he added. Mr Morton said: "The basic thrust of our training was to guide the participants the evidence should be recovered ethically and professionally so that the court of law accepts it."
