MIRPURKHAS, April 19: Dozens of farmers of Sindhri minor staged a demonstration at the Sindhri chowk here on Monday to protest against non-supply of water for about a month. The protestors carrying banners and placards raised slogans against the SDO of Sindhri.
Talking to newsmen, Haji Ali Murad Shar, who led the protestors, alleged that the Sindhri minor was under the Irrigation Department but it was not releasing water to minor since last month causing damages to standing sugarcane, mango, cotton, chili, onion and other crops.
He deplored that watercourses of some influential persons were being supplied with water but they were refused their due share by irrigation officials. The demonstrators demanded the Sindh chief minister and the secretary of irrigation to ensure the proper water supply to the minor.
HUNGER STRIKE: A hunger strike by the people of Bheel community of Sonia Bah village, Chhachhro Taluka, Tharparkar district, entered the second day on Monday. The hunger strikers were protesting against the illegal occupation of their houses and lands by the land mafia outside the local press club.
They said that the land mafia had occupied their houses and agricultural lands with the connivance of local administration and was threatening them of dire consequences. They demanded of the Sindh governor and the chief minister to get their lands and houses released from the land grabbers.
POLIO: The Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, on Monday organized a awareness walk for the eradication of polio. Carrying banners and placards the participants of the walk marched through main roads and reached at Market chowk. Speaking on the occasion, EDO Health Dr Fazal Illahi Yousfani advised the parents to get their children administered anti-polio drops during the campaign.
