KARACHI, April 19: The new emergency operation theatre complex will be formally inaugurated at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre on Wednesday. The project initiated in April 2003 has been completed in a record period through the concerted efforts of an NGO, "Accident and Emergency Foundation".

The head of JPMC-EOT coordination committee, Prof Hasan Aziz, mentioned that the accident and emergency department that remained open round-the-clock and received 350 to 400 patients daily was finding it difficult to cope with the increased number of casualties.

According to him, some JPMC doctors and a group of concerned citizens realizing that the department required new, dependable and in some cases sophisticated equipment to provide quality medical care to patients made efforts to establish the complex.

The workload on JPMC was ever increasing while the existing facilities were insufficient, he said adding that the new complex holds updated facilities for necessary surgical procedures under emergency conditions besides provision for anaesthesia and recovery rooms along with all the supporting services. -APP
