KARACHI, April 15: The Supreme Court dismissed as withdrawn on Thursday a Punjab minister's petition for leave to appeal against a Sindh High Court judgment.

The petitioner, Pir Ghulam Mohyuddin, was in service with the customs department as a senior preventive officer but tendered his resignation in January 2000.

He decided to contest the Punjab Assembly election from a Sahiwal constituency in October 2002. His election was challenged for his having been in the service of Pakistan within two years of the election.

The impugned judgment asked him to produce the notification of acceptance of his resignation in January 2000. He submitted in his petition that a notification was not issued though his resignation was immediately accepted. A three-member SC bench allowed his counsel, Advocate Rana M. Shamim, to withdraw his petition to obtain a notification from the customs department.
