BAHAWALPUR, April 7: Teachers of government colleges in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan observed the Black Day on Wednesday to denounce indifference towards their long-standing demands.

The professors and lecturers boycotted classes to register their protest and reiterate their demands. They also arranged a meeting at a local college under the auspices of the Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association. The meeting was presided over by Prof Muhammad Ayub.

The academics, who had worn black armbands, through a unanimous resolution called upon the government to stop privatization of the government schools and colleges, and dispense with the interference of Nazims in educational affairs.

They also demanded that there should be no obstacle in their promotions, end to appointments on a contract and adoption of the Ijaz Nisar commission recommendation, implementation of time-scale formula under the Sharif Commission, and restoration of the Higher Education Commission's control on the promotion of education.
