KARACHI: 'Sports in towns under city govt control'

KARACHI, April 6: All sports activities of towns in Karachi come under the control of City District Government of Karachi. This was stated by Minister for Sports Qamar Mansoor during the provincial assembly session in reply to a question of Hafiz Muhammad Naeem Shamozai, who wanted to know about the allocation of funds for the registered football teams of Baldia Town.

The sports minister informed the House that no demand was received from the elected registered Football Association of Baldia Town through its provincial chapter.

In reply to the question of Mrs Heer Ismail Soho, who wanted to know the budget allocated for sports in district Thatta and head of accounts, and its utilization, the sports minister said there was no specific budget allocation for the district Thatta. However, he said that the amounts released to the concerned sports association to organize the programmes were as follows:

An amount of Rs24,300 was paid to the Secretary District Malh Association for Malakharo Tournament held from March 21 to 23, 2003 at Taluka Mirpur Sakro, District Thatta. Rs20,000 were given to the All Sindh Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai Sports Organization for Independence Day Sports Festival organized in April 2003 at Thatta. The amount was released from the head "Sports Activities" of Sindh Sports Board's budget 2001-02.

Sindh Minister for Industries Muhammad Adil Siddiqui informed the House that no case of theft in Dadu Sugar Mill from July 2003 till date had been reported. This information was given in response to the question of Mrs Sharf-un-Nisa who wanted to know whether the equipment and other material worth Rs1 million had been stolen from Dadu Sugar Mill in July/August 2003, if so what action had been taken by the government in this regard.

In reply to Mrs Humera Alvani's question, who wanted to know details of industries set up in Thatta, the minister informed that four units were set up during the period in question - one in 1999, two in 2002 and one in 2003.
