HARIPUR, March 26: The Peshawar High Court's Election Tribunal unseated a Union Council naib nazim from Haripur for being bank defaulter on Thursday.
Haji Abdul Saboor Qureshi had won election for naib nazim of union council Shumali Haripur in July 2001 defeating two other candidates.
The runner up panel of Shahid Amin and Maqbool advocate challenged his election on the plea that Mr Qureshi had defaulted on Rs17.5 million loan, which he obtained from a bank for setting up a textile firm, Hazara Fabrics.
The Election Tribunal, headed by Justice Qazi Ehsanullah Khan directed the authorities concerned to elect another naib nazim. The unseated naib nazim was the leader of the opposition in the tehsil council and had attempted a no-trust move against the sitting Tehsil nazim. The move was defeated.
