LAHORE: A tribute to late artiste

LAHORE, March 25: Glowing tributes were paid to the late film and TV artiste, Begum Khursheed Mirza, for her contribution to art and culture, and social work at a book launching ceremony here on Thursday.

Senator S. M. Zafar said that had there been around a dozen more such women, the destiny of the country would have been changed. He also praised her husband, Akbar, who had supported and encouraged her in her wishes to distribute joys among people.

Mr Zafar urged the people to become part of solution to a problem, otherwise they would become part of the problem itself. HRCP Director I A Rahman recalled her efforts for the tribal women during her stay in Quetta in the 50's and fund raisers for the Apwa College.

He applauded her for doing her graduation at the age of 42 and post-graduation at 45 despite her domestic and professional engagements to make amends for lagging behind her sisters in education due to her early marriage.

Justice Nasira Javed Iqbal (retired), TV artiste Munawar Saeed, Masood Salahuddin, Begum Hameed Khwaja and former ambassador Wajahat Husain also threw light on various aspects of Begum Mirza's life.
