KARACHI, March 16: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain has called for steps to protect Sindh's historical and cultural heritage. In a statement issued from London on Tuesday , Mr Hussain blamed the successive governments for failing to discharge their duties in protecting Moenjodaro which, he said, was in a very bad shape due to years of neglect by those claiming to be champions of Sindh's cause.

He said that people of Sindh were concerned about this state of affairs, and emphasized that nations which did not take care of their heritage, lost their identity in the annals of history.

He said that it was national duty of the government to protect th heritage. He also appealed to the president, prime minister and federal minister for tourism to take concrete steps for the protection of Moenjodaro.

PLOT DEPLORED: The coordination committee of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement deplored on Tuesday the attempt to explode a explosive-laden vehicle in front of the US Consulate here and termed it a conspiracy to plunge the city into a bloodbath.

The committee took notice of abandoning of a vehicle, loaded with liquid explosive and a time device, in front of the US Consulate on Monday morning by unknown people, and said it was part of a deep-rooted conspiracy to destroy peace of the city and to shy away foreign investment.

It appealed to the president, the prime minister and the Sindh governor to take a serious notice of the abortive attempt on Abdullah Haroon Road. Meanwhile, the MQM parliamentarians have criticized the MMA MNA, Asadullah Bhutto, for blaming the MQM over the murder of PPP MPA Abdullah Murad and demanding resignation of the Sindh governor and adviser on home affairs.

They said instead of making such a demand the MMA should resign and take the responsibility for the Quetta carnage. They said the people were aware of the MMA's double standards.
