UK naval chief arrives

KARACHI, March 16: Admiral Sir Alan West, Britain's First Sea Lord and Chief of the Naval Staff, arrived here on Monday evening. He was received at the Pakistan Navy Aviation Base by Commander Karachi Rear-Admiral Asad Qureshi , an ISPR (Navy) news release said here on Tuesday.

The First Sea Lord is on a five-day official visit to Pakistan on the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Admiral Shahid Karimullah. The British naval chief visited Mazar-i-Quaid on Tuesday morning to pay homage to the Father of the Nation. He remained there for some time and laid a floral wreath.

Later, the First Sea Lord visited PN Dockyard and called on Commander Logistics, Vice-Admiral Farooq Rashid, and discussed matters of bilateral interest.

During his visit, Admiral Sir Alan West attended a briefing on the indigenous submarine and ship construction capabilities of Pakistan Navy. He witnessed the ongoing work on the third under-construction Agosta 90-B submarine and praised the professionalism of Pakistan Navy workforce. -APP
