Body formed to revive poultry industry

ISLAMABAD, March 16: A committee has been formed to propose measures for the revival of poultry industry. This was decided at a meeting of the Federal Poultry Board held here on Monday. The finance secretary presided over the meeting which was also attended by additional secretary, Ministry of Finance.

The animal husbandry commissioner will be the chairman of the committee while joint secretary of the commerce ministry, and secretary general Pakistan Poultry Association will be its members.

The committee will review the situation and give recommendations to the government to grant some relief to the poultry industry. The representatives of poultry association apprised the finance ministry officials about the losses suffered by their industry due to the threat of bird influenza in some countries in South Asia.

They said the mis-information about the flu affected the poultry farmers in the country in general and Karachi in particular. The overall loss suffered by the was estimated by the association in billions and about the 10 per cent of investment in the industry.
