Sikh leader opposes US arms sales to India

WASHINGTON, March 16: The United States should stop selling weapons to India, president of the Council of Khalistan, Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, said on Monday.

"India represses its minorities, spends its money on useless weapons while the people live in abject poverty, and is anti-American," Dr. Aulakh said. "This sale is very destabilizing," said Dr. Aulakh. "It will only promote India's hegemonic ambitions."

The Sikh leader recalled that India had a long record of anti-Americanism. It was an ally of the former Soviet Union and supported the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, but did nothing to support the American operations in Afghanistan, he said.
