HYDERABAD, May 18: Prof Nazeer Ashraf Leghari, convenor of the action committee for the safe recovery of Prof Mohammad Hussain Leghari, on Saturday deplored the apathy of the law enforcement agencies and alleged that no sincere efforts had been made to recover the kidnapped professor.

He was speaking at a joint meeting of the teaching faculties, paramedical and nursing staff of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences and hospital, LMC Graduates Association and the Pakistan Medical Association.

Prof Jan Mohammad Memon, Sindh PMA president Dr Noor Mohammad Memon, Dr Sirajul Haq Shaikh and others also condemned the inordinate delay in the recovery of the professor.

The meeting resolved to observe a two-hour token strike at government hospitals in Hyderabad city from 9:30am to 11:30am on Tuesday followed by a two-hour protest sit-in at the Hyderabad Press Club from 12:00 noon to 2:00pm.

It further resolved to observe a 24-hour strike on Friday (May 24) at government and private sector hospitals as well as at private and general practitioners clinics. However, emergency cover will be provided to the patients.

It was decided to hold a general body meeting of the faculty members and medical and paramedical staff at the lecture hall of the university hospital, Hyderabad, on May 24 and to invite the DPO and additional IGP, Hyderabad, to brief the meeting about the progress of the case and the steps taken so far in respect of the recovery of Prof Leghari.

The meeting resolved to constitute a broad-based committee for mobilizing medical and other educational institutions, NGOs and professional organizations throughout the province to join the struggle for the recovery of the professor.

Vice Chancellor Prof Jan Mohammad Memon presided over the meeting.

MINOR GIRL: A group of activists of the Sindh People’s Student Federation (SB) observed a token hunger strike outside the press club here on Saturday to express solidarity with Ms Huzooran Abro, whose minor daughter, Noor Bano, had been kidnapped two months back.

Ms Huzooran Abro has also been on hunger strike outside the press club here for the last so many days to but so far no one has taken notice of her plight.

The SPSF (SB) activists demanded of the Sindh governor to intervene in the matter and restore justice to the woman.

They regretted that although two months had elapsed since the kidnapping of Noor Bano but no efforts had been made for her recovery.
