KARACHI, Feb 27: Six labourers died and three were injured when a prefabricated shed they were erecting in an under-construction oil refinery in Bin Qasim industrial area, collapsed on them, on Friday night.
The SHO of Sukkan police station told Dawn that the construction company used to bring Lahore-manufactured sheds to install in Karachi with the help of cranes.
Town police officer of Bin Qasim, Kamran Fazal said that the labourers were installing the shed in the premises of the under- construction Faisalabad Oil Refinery, when the structure fell on them.
Police said that all the labourers had been hired by a Lahore-based private company, and were carrying out construction work at the refinery. The dead persons were identified as Samar Abbas, Tabaruk, Mustafa, Shamshar, Tahir and Pehlwan, while Sabir Husain, Abdul Ghaffar and Sajjad Husain suffered serious injuries.
A senior official of the Edhi Foundation told Dawn that the company management didn't allow Edhi's ambulances to transport the bodies, and instead hired a private truck to shift the bodies to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.
