VEHARI, Feb 19: Two jewellers were robbed of gold, cash and other valuables worth more than Rs3.5 million in separate incidents here on Thursday. Sheikh Sultan Ahmad told police that four robbers forcibly entered his house in block D near Danywal police station in the morning.

They held his family members at gunpoint and collected Rs2 million in cash, 60 tolas of gold ornaments worth Rs500,000, about Rs400,000 in foreign currency and other valuables and fled from the scene.

In the second incident, five highwaymen stopped an Arifwala-bound bus near Adda Buater and went straight to jeweller Shahzad Arshad who belonged to Guru Nanak Pura, Faisalabad, and took away Rs300,000 in cash and gold and silver ornaments worth about Rs1 million.

Police are investigating. Robbery and theft incidents have sharply risen in the district during the last couple of weeks as 50 incidents have occurred during the period. Police have not yet arrested any of the robbers or recovered stolen goods.
