LAHORE: Army officers witness cattle show

LAHORE, Feb 19: Four top army officers witnessed the Horse and Cattle Show and called on Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi here on Thursday. They included Joint Chief of Staff Committee Chairman Gen Aziz Ahmad, Vice Chief of Army Staff Gen Muhammad Yousaf, Air Chief Marshal Saadat Kalim, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Shahid Karimullah and Lahore Corps Commander Lt-Gen Shahid Aziz.

The army officers were received by the chief minister at the Fortress Stadium. They appreciated the show as well as other Jashn-i-Baharan programmes organized by the provincial government.

The chief minister said the cattle show reflected the culture of Punjab and was a symbol of inter-provincial unity. The show and other programmes of Jashn-i-Baharan were meant to promote Punjab culture and provide recreation to people, he said.

He said the horse and cattle show had assumed importance with regard to agriculture, entertainment and sports. An industrial exhibition had also been arranged in the vicinity to allow people to know the quality and variety of industrial products of different provinces, he said.

The chief minister also mentioned the light and music show being staged at the Lahore Fort and said it was creating awareness among the young generation about the past glory of Muslims.

Participation of people in Jashn-i-Baharan programmes reflected their interest in the cultural heritage of the province, he said. Gen Aziz later distributed prizes among the winners of different events.
