DADU, Feb 6: Hundreds of people, including the relatives of two accident victims and political activists, held a protest demonstration against the police on the Indus Highway near Sehwan on Friday.
The protesters, who were led by district Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz organizer Nisar Otho and Moharram Mallah, marched from Sehwan to the Garhi Mori village and blocked the vehicular traffic for six hours.
Talking to the demonstrators, the leaders said Mohammad Sharif, 30, and his brother, Qurban Mallah, 25, had been run over by an oil tanker of the Tekino gas company on the Indus Highway near Garhi Mori village seven days back.
They said the villagers captured trailer driver Rafaqat Ali and handed him over to the Sehwan police but the police registered a case against an unidentified driver and did not nominate the arrested driver.
They alleged that the police registered a wrong FIR after receiving bribe from officials of the oil company. They further said the company officials had refused to pay compensation to the relatives of the deceased.
The villagers demanded that the arrested driver should be nominated in the FIR. They also threatened to stop the work of the company in the area and block the Indus Highway on Feb 8 near Sehwan.
LOADSHEDDING: Residents of Dadu city held a protest demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday against Hesco officials for resorting to unscheduled loadshedding. The protesters said Hesco officials suspended power supply to the town to cover line losses.
Meanwhile, power supply to several parts of the Dadu town, including Gharibabad, Shahani, Mazoorabad, Marakhpur, Jagatabad and Soorajabad areas, remained suspended for five hours which also led to water shortage.
DEMO: A large number of Mallah clansmen held a demonstration outside the press club here on Thursday to protest against the arrest of Mehar Mukhtiarkar Nizamuddin Thatiar.
They were led by Dadu union council-III Nazim Mohammad Amin, Mohammad Siddiq and Fateh Mohammad. Speaking to the demonstrators, Mr Amin said that two years back when Mr Thatiar was working as Dadu Mukhtiarkar, local landlord and anti-corruption inspector Murad Channa forced him to prepare fake documents of land but he refused.
He said that now the inspector had arrested the Mukhtiarkar in a concocted case, and appealed to the Sindh chief minister to take notice of the arrest. Meanwhile, the revenue staff also held a demonstration outside the press club against the arrest of the Mukhtiarkar.
