SHEIKHUPURA, Feb 6: Two labourers were crushed by a train on the Sargodha Road, about six kilometres from here, Friday afternoon.
Reports reaching here said Sher Zaman, 26, and Faizur Rahman, 27, who worked at a textile mills, were sitting at the railway track behind the mills' boundary wall when a Faisalabad-bound 141-up Rachna Express trampled them to death.
The deceased had come to Sheikhupura from Mianwali for work. Saddar police described the incident as a suicide attempt, and initiated investigation.
SHOT DEAD: Robbers on Friday shot dead a man and injured his wife during a strike at Masso-Sharif village in Mangtanwala police station precinct, some 60 kilometres from here.
According to reports, three armed men barged into the house of Muhammad Husain, a farmer, whose son Ramzan and his wife, Rashida Bibi, put up resistance. The intruders opened fire on them, killing Ramzan and injuring his wife. The robbers fled firing in the air.
ABDUCTED: A girl was abducted by four people at Tauheed park in Ferozewala police station jurisdiction here on Friday. According to reports, the suspects also took away cash and other valuables worth hundreds of thousands of rupees. Ferozewala police are going into the matter.
HASH SEIZED: Ferozewala police claimed on Friday that they had seized 12 kilograms of hash on the Kala Khatai Road.
The police impounded car (LHH-2529) but its occupants managed to escape. Meanwhile, the district police in a joint operation with the Punjab constabulary raided 346 parts of the district in the last few days and arrested 196 culprits involved in different heinous crimes. They also recovered sophisticated weapons in quantity.
District Police Officer Nawaz Warraich told newsmen that the police, on the directive of IGP Masood Shah, had launched a campaign against criminals.
