RAWALPINDI, Jan 29: The Islamabad Capital Territory police have been equipped with latest anti-riot tools, including air teaser guns, electronic net catchers, route oil liner and walk- through gates to improve security in the federal capital, a source told Dawn.
In addition to indigenously-made sticks and batons brought from Lahore, helmets and anti-riot jackets have also been given to the ICT police, the source said.
The "net catchers", he said, had been imported from Japan. A mini launcher is used to throw a "net catcher" on rioters and one net has the capacity to hold at least 40 to 45 people.
The "air teaser guns", manufactured by engineering department of Los Angeles police, will enable the capital police to temporarily paralyze and arrest rioters. At least, 40 to 45 people can be paralyzed by a single shot of the gun, the source said.
The "route oil liner" is used to disperse mass protests, long marches and rallies by spraying oil on roads with the help of two special vehicles. It will keep the protesters away from the roads as they will not be able to walk on the oily surface. The oil sprayed will be removed from the roads with a chemical powder.
