KATHMANDU, Jan 25: Nepalese police on Sunday arrested some 120 students while they were staging anti-monarchy demonstration in Kathmandu and the western city of Pokhara, student leaders claimed.

However, police said only a few students had been detained, without giving a specific number. Student leaders said around 50 students were rounded up in the capital Kathmandu as they attempted to stage an anti-king protest.

Another 70 were held in Pokhara, where they were trying to hold a public debate on the subject: "How appropriate will it be to continue the monarchy in Nepal in the 21st century", they said.-AFP
