SHEIKHUPURA: Two killed, 22 injured on road

SHEIKHUPURA, Jan 22: Two passengers were killed while 22 others sustained injuries on Thursday in a pile up near Jahamkay on Sargodha Road, some eight kilometres from here.

Two speeding wagons, coming to Farooqabad from Lahore, collided with an oncoming wagon from the opposite side. Khalid and Aslam died instantly while 22 others suffered injuries. Four of the injured - Sajid, Sarmad, Idris and Wasim were shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition. Sheikhupura Sadar police are looking into the matter.

ARRESTED: The district police on Thursday claimed to have arrested five proclaimed offenders, 23 court absconders and 29 other criminals in a campaign launched against anti-social elements throughout the district.

The police also recovered two Kalashnikov, one G-3 riffle, a repeater gun, 15 pistols, 10 guns of 12 bores, six revolvers and several cartridges from the possession of arrested culprits.

Besides, the police also seized contraband in huge quantity, booty worth Rs235,000 and four motorcycles during the operation. The campaign against the culprits was launched on the orders of the Punjab chief minister under the supervision of DPO Nawaz Warraich.

GETS DEATH: District and sessions judge Khan Talib Husain Baloch on Thursday handed down death sentence and fined Rs5,000 to a convict in a murder case. According to the prosecution, convict Yousaf had murdered Arif over a petty dispute in Kot Nadim village some two years back.
