PESHAWAR, Oct 26: Jamaat-i-Islami on Friday asked the supporters of former Afghan King Zahir Shah to stop conspiracies against the Taliban and said that no anti-Taliban elements would be allowed to hold so-called peace conferences on the conflict.

The Jamaat and Pakistan-Afghanistan Defence Council organized a demonstration in the cantonment locality to protest against the US air strikes on Afghanistan.

Led by Jamaat’s provincial deputy chief Hakim Abdul Waheed, the procession was taken out from Sunehri Mosque.

Speaking at the gathering, Hakim Wahid said the conveners of the peace conferences had no backing of Afghan people. He opposed the formation of any Afghan government from outside as well as Zahir Shah option.

Criticizing the government’s policies, he said the big anti-US processions throughout the country showed the anger of people.

He said it was shameful for a military government to side with the US for attacking a Muslim country.

He said the United States had never been a friend of Pakistan and had always left it in the lurch.
