GUJRANWALA, Jan 14: Thechamber of commerce and industry started collecting funds for setting up a medical college after uplifting the DHQ Hospital, and appealed to benefactors to donate for this noble cause.
At a meeting held here on Wednesday, GCCI president Sheikh Shaukat Javaid said the establishment of the medical college at the DHQ Hospital was a longstanding demand of citizens accepted by the Punjab CM.
He said now it was our responsibility to contribute our share in the project. We had to collect Rs30 million from our sources while the government would provide Rs120 million during the next three years, he said.
The GCCI president said the 'citizen community board' headed by chamber former president Sheikh Muhammad Nasim had already been formed for the collection of funds. Noted industrialist Muhammad Asghar announced Rs200,000 for the college.
STUDENTS' DEMO: Students of government-run educational institutions in Kamoki demonstrated outside offices of senior police officers on Wednesday against an SHO for thrashing their colleagues and detaining them in the lock-up.
Kamoki City SHO Khawaja Khawar Latif raided the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) office and beat up students Kamran Ghuman, Hafiz Yasir, Abbas Jat and Hafiz Naeem. The SHO took them to the police station and detained them in the lock-up without any justification. However, on the intervention of some local politicians, the detained students were released.
The protesters reached there by buses and took out the procession against the SHO headed by MSF leader Rana Shabbir Ahmed Khan. They demanded that the SHO should be suspended immediately. They gave an ultimatum of 24 hours for action against the SHO and threatened to come on road if their demand was not met. DPO Saud Aziz and City SP Zaeem Iqbal assured them that stern action would be taken against the SHO if he found guilty of charges.
INJURED: At least a dozen people sustained injuries in a clash between viewers and the theatre administration here on Wednesday. A drama was being staged at the Punjab Theatre when some spectators began shouting against the theatre administration. As a result, they attacked each other with fists, kicks and clubs.
The area people intervened and rescued them. However, some dozen people suffered injuries, including theatre gunman Khan Muhammad. They were rushed to the local DHQ Hospital.
