Shoora proposes three names for JI amir

LAHORE, Jan 13: Central Shoora of the Jamaat-i-Islami has proposed three names for new amir through a secret ballot. They are incumbent amir Qazi Husain Ahmad, Syed Munawwar Hasan and Liaquat Baloch.

The Shoora has nominated Lahore Jamaat naib amir Abdul Hafeez Ahmad as election commissioner. However, arakeen (members with voting right) may vote for any member other than the three. There are a total of 17,000 arakeen, both male and female, of the Jamaat.

Elections to the office of amir are held every five years and no-one is allowed to become a contestant on his own. Rather the Shoora selects three nominees through a secret vote for the guidance of other members. The term of Qazi Husain will expire in April this year after which the new amir will take oath of his office.
