TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 12: Millat-i-Islamia Pakistan (MIP) chief Maulana Muhammad Ahmad Ludhianvi has expressed grave concern over raids on seminaries and arrest of noted religious leader Syed Nafees Husain Shah.

In a press statement issued on Monday, he termed the crackdown as state terrorism. He claimed that the operation against seminaries was the "first gift" from the government after its agreement with the MMA on the president's uniform. He urged the government to restrain from giving bad name to the religious personalities and seminaries.

ELECTORAL ROLLS: The Election Commission of Pakistan has nominated judges to entertain applications for registration or deletion of names in the voters' lists.

A press release issued here on Monday said at Toba Tek Singh civil judges Mian Qamar Zaman and Muhammad Aslam, at Gojra civil judges Saeed Rafiq and Afzaal Ahmad Butt and at Kamalia civil judges Jalil Ahmad and Faizul Hasan will entertain applications till February 22.

INJURED: A robber shot and injured a tea stall owner on resistance at Ghousia Chowk near Pirmahal on Rajana-Abdul Hakeem road on Sunday night. Police said the robber held Abdul Sattar at gunpoint and asked him to hand over cash to him. But Sattar attempted to overpower him. The robber got unnerved and opened fire on him as a result of which he sustained serious injuries. Sattar was shifted to Allied Hospital, Faisalabad, due to his critical condition.

BURIED ALIVE: Labourer Iqbal died when a heap of earth fell on him in Gojra. He was loading earth from a field on to a trolley when the accident took place. He died on the spot. He was a resident of Chak 367-JB Jalianwala.

SUICIDE: A youth allegedly committed suicide in Chak 266-GB on Monday. Aurangzeb had a quarrel with his father over some domestic issue after which he took poison. He was taken to Rajana hospital where he died a couple of hours later.
