RAWALPINDI, Jan 11: The PML-Q central vice-president and chairman of its media committee, Syed Kabir Ali Wasti, said the policy of President Gen Pervez Musharraf on Kashmir is in the larger interest of the country.

In a statement, he said it was necessary to bring changes to the old policies as these had failed to deliver. He, however, said there was a need to include moderate, progressive and popular people in the president's team to successfully implement his policies.

Mr Wasti said people should be apprised about the positive changes in the vital policies to seek their support. He supported President Musharraf's stance on exploring solutions to the Kashmir dispute.

Dismissing criticism of the opponents, the PML leader reminded that old policies failed to attract world's support. He said the policy based on militancy had totally failed, therefore, President Musharraf had to go for a bold decision of composite dialogue with India, including Jammu and Kashmir.

He said Kashmir issue could not be resolved without peaceful, purposeful and meaningful talks. He said there were alternative solutions other than the UN resolutions and plebiscite.
