The chemist had already furnished the contaminated report to the X.E.N. (Water) of the Lyari Town and concerned officials of the water and sewerage department.

The residents said leakages in waterlines at KMC Maternity Home and Police Headquarters on Shah Latif Bhittai Road was caused due to digging work carried out a week ago, but all of sudden the work was discontinued. They urged the authorities to take effective measures for plugging the leakages permanently to save them from gastro-enteritis diseases.

According to the residents of these areas, stinking water, unfit for drinking purposes, comes from their taps with frequent intervals.

Acute water shortage problem has been persisting in Shah Beg Lane Union Council areas, multiplying the miseries of the people in the affected localities.

A resident of water deficit area of Kalri Salim Raj said: "We have been making appeals to various authorities and agencies but the situation remains unchanged."

Another social worker of the area, Akhtar Baloch claimed that an artificial water shortage had been created in Ali Mohammad Mohalla and some other parts of the Shah Beg Lane Union Council because of "dirty politics" of local bodies representatives.

He accused the Baghdadi UC Nazim of diverting the recently laid water lines meant for Ali Mohammad Mohalla to his (Nazim) localities. He also criticized an influential party for stopping the water supply to Ali Mohammad Mohalla.

A community leader demanded that at least 30mgd water be supplied to Lyari Town to cater the minimum water consumption of the densely populated area. In some localities, residents blame the valvemen for creating an artificial water crisis by illegally diverting the water share of their locality to some other areas.
