SUKKUR: Two minor children wedded

SUKKUR, Jan 4: The Kandhra police on Saturday conducted unsuccessful raids to arrest a Maulvi for solemnizing the Nikah of two minor children on Friday. Agna, 3, daughter of Manthar Jagirani, was married to Zubair, 7, son of Noor Ahmed Jagirani. Hafiz Gulzar Gabol solemnized the Nikah.

The marriage was followed by the rukhsati of Agna. Last year, Noor Ahmed had married his sister to Ali Gohar Jagirani, son of Manthar. Later, due to a dispute, Noor Ahmed demanded that a girl of Manthar's family should also be married to a boy of his family.

Manthar said that his daughter was just 3-year-old therefore she could not be married. Noor Ahmed forced his sister to stay with him and asked Ali Gohar to divorce her. On this, Manthar agreed to marry his minor daughter to the minor son of Noor Ahmed.

Commenting on the marriage, the DPO Sukkur said the law did not allow marriage of minor children and added he had ordered the Kandhra police to bring both the parties to book. The Kandhra SHO said he had called both the parties to record their statement after which he could decide what action would be taken against them.
