Nasir named skipper for Asia U-17

LAHORE, Jan 2: Opener Nasir Jamshed, has been named captain of a 14-member Pakistan Under-17 team for the Asia Under-17 tournament to be played in India from Jan 13 to 27.

The team was announced after holding final trial matches at Gaddafi Stadium on Thursday and Friday in which 43 probables took part.

Pakistan with three other Test playing countries, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will join the tournament from the second round starting from Jan 19. Only associate member countries only, will play in the first round, starting from Jan 13.

Pakistan and India are also placed in the same pool. Nasir was a member of the Pakistan Under-15 team that last year won the Asia Cup Under-15 in UAE. Seven other members of that team-Yasir Arafat, Adnan Raza, Salman Akbar, Raza Ali Dar, Kashif Mahmood, Fahad Zaman and Nasir Ahmad have been retained in the squad.

Ali Zia and Mohsin Kamal will accompany the team as manager and coach. Pakistan will play all its matches at Bangalore and will reach there on Jan 15. The national selection committee headed by Aamir Sohail also announced 10 stand-byes.
