ISLAMABAD, Jan 2: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has sent a summary to the interior ministry, seeking removal of 39 illegal kiosks set up by Islamabad police with the sponsorship of various companies, a source in the CDA told Dawn on Friday.

The source said these kiosks with advertisement of various companies were established without the approval of the authority and in violation of its rules. Most of these kiosks have been set up on green belts, he added.

As Islamabad police and the CDA are two allied departments of the interior ministry, therefore, the ministry seems to be reluctant to entertain the authority's complaint, the source said.

Recently the CDA staff were not only beaten up by the police, but also sent behind bars for one day for removing a police kiosk in Jinnah Super Area last month.

In view of the harsh attitude of the police with the CDA staffers, the authority's directorate concerned is said to be reluctant to take further action against illegal kiosks.

"There is a proper procedure for advertisement of commercial products or entities in Islamabad and all applications for this purpose have to be approved by the advertisement committee of the CDA," an official of the authority said.
