Revision of electoral rolls begins today

KARACHI, Dec 31: The process of annual revision of electoral rolls begins on Jan 1 throughout Sindh as elsewhere in the country. According to the schedule announced by the Pakistan Election Commission , the existing electoral rolls will be on display as draft electoral roll on Jan 1, for which the election commission has made necessary arrangements.

The election commission has fixed Jan 22 for filing claims, objections and submitting applications for correction of existing entries in the electoral rolls with the revising authorities or registration officers.

Disposal of claims and objections and applications for corrections will be made between Jan 23 and Feb 11. Preparation of manuscript lists of additions, deletions and corrections will be made between Feb 12 to March 3. Between March 3 and 6, arrangements will be made for final publication of electoral rolls, and on March 8, final publication of revized rolls will be ensured.

Draft electoral rolls can be inspected in each electoral area at conspicuous places and in the offices of registration officers concerned (assistant election commissioners) in districts and in the office of assistant registration officers.

The election commission has appointed 20 registration officers, 540 assistant registration officers and 140 revising authorities in the province. The revising authorities have been appointed amongst the judicial officers.

All persons, who have attained the age of 18 years on or before Jan 1 and whose names are not included in the existing electoral rolls, will be entitled to file claims in Form- IV for inclusion, objections in Form-V for deletion of names of the deceased voters on those who have migrated from the areas.

The corrections in the existing entries can also be made by filling applications in Form-VI. Ahmed Ali Halepota, Provincial Election Commissioner, Sindh has advized the people to visit display centres and ensure that their names are available there.
