BADIN, May 16: A complete strike was observed in Shaheed Fazil Rahu town on Thursday against the shortage of drinking water.

Shops and business centres remained closed.

A protest rally was also staged which, after marching through main town roads, terminated outside the office of the taluka Nazim.

The rally was led by councillor Motilal, Khairuddin Mari, Asghar Notkani and Dilmurad Mari while a large number of activists of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz and Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party and others participated in it.

The protesters were raising slogans against the local administration for not providing water.

They said the supply of drinking water from ponds had been suspended for the last 15 days which had made the life of citizens miserable.

They said that in several localities, people purchased water from tankers at high prices which they said was also unfit for human consumption it was mostly contaminated subsoil water.

They also condemned the elected councillors and Nazims for showing apathy.

The reason for the non-supply of water is that all distributions and minors in Golarchi, which are the main water sources for the citizens, are dried up.

HESCO: The authorities of the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company, Badin, has disconnected power supply to a number of government offices for non-payment of dues.

The power supply of the public health, LBOD, food, agriculture, irrigation, fisheries, animal husbandry, excise and taxation and other various departments’ offices was disconnected.

According to the SDO, Javed Iqbal Abbasi, an amount of Rs22.6 million was outstanding against these government offices.

He said to recover the default amount of Rs50 million from power consumers of the district, 1,000 connections were disconnected and 2,000 consumers were served with final notices for timely payment of the power dues.
