KARACHI: Over 3mgd water supply to Jamshed Town opened

KARACHI, Feb 6: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal on Friday announced that the water supply to each house in five union councils of Jamshed Town would start within 20 days after the laying of internal water supply network.

Addressing a public meeting in Manzoor Colony after inaugurating a project to supply over 3MGD of water in the five union councils of Jamshed Town, he said that the Haq Parast leadership carried out development works costing over Rs700 million in various katchi abadies of the town.

The development works which included water and sewerage works, construction of roads and installation of streetlights, he said.

The areas which would benefit from the project includes Dadabhoy Town, Admin Society, Liaquat Ashraf Colony, Azam Basti, Manzoor Colony, Mehmoodabad, Kashmir Colony, Akhtar Colony, Parsi Colony, Chanesar Goth, Iqbal Colony, Baloch Colony and Azam Town.

Mr Kamal said that the water supply system had never been installed in these areas, though they had existed for 40 years, and they did not even figure in the maps of the water board.

“We are thankful to the Almighty for enabling us to solve an long-standing problem.”

Residents of Manzoor Colony have been getting water supply through their home taps since last week,” he added.

He said that the city government solved the difficult task of lying pipeline to these areas where previously 300 water tankers used to supply water on a daily basis.

The number of tankers had now decreased to just 30 tankers and within two months there would be no need of water tankers, he added.

He said that all credit for these works went to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and its leader, Altaf Hussain.

The meeting was also addressed by MNA Waseem Akhtar, Provincial Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Town Nazim Javed Ahmed and Umer Sharif.

Earlier, the city nazim was given a warm welcome and he was taken to the venue in the form of a procession.

Thousands of people greeted him to express their happiness over the completion of the water supply project.—APP
