KARACHI, Feb 6: A man attempting to raise the alarm during a house robbery in Baldia Town was killed by the robbers in the early hours of Friday.
Police said three armed suspects barged into the house in Gulshan-i-Mazdoor colony in Mochko police limits and began to loot valuables after holding the occupants of the house at gunpoint.
A man from the neighbourhood learnt about the presence of thieves in the house and raised the alarm, but the criminals shot him and managed to escape, along with their loot.
The victim was identified as Muhammad Iqbal, 35. His body was sent to Civil Hospital for legal formalities.
Police have registered a case against unknown persons.
In a separate incident, a middle-aged man was gunned down in Malir late on Thursday night.
Police said that a hotel owner, Haji Niaz Baloch, 48, was heading home from a park when unknown persons riding on a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets near Malir 15.
The victim was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, but succumbed to his wounds on the way to the hospital. Police suspected a personal enmity was the possible motive behind the killing.
Pedestrian killed
A pedestrian was killed in a road accident in Korangi Industrial Area on Friday. Police said that a fast-moving car hit a pedestrian near Chamra Chowrangi.
The victim was identified as Ghulam Mohammad and his body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a post-mortem examination.
Man injured resisting robbers
A young man was injured while putting up a strong resistance to thieves in Landhi area on Friday.
Police said that Muhammad Hamza, 25, was shot at by unknown suspects, who were depriving him of valuables at gunpoint near Allahdad Hotel in Landhi. The suspects managed to escape.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Protest against D.G. Khan bombing
M.A. Jinnah Road was on Friday blocked by demonstrators protesting against the suicide bombing at a procession in Dera Ghazi Khan on Thursday.
Over 30 participants of the mourning procession were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up.
On Friday evening, the demonstrators in Karachi staged a sit in at Numaish, blocking traffic at the city’s thoroughfare. They chanted slogans against the government for what they called “not doing enough for the security of the mourning procession”.
The protestors chanted slogans against the US and Israel and also burnt the flags of the two countries. The protest demonstration caused a severe traffic jam and traffic was diverted to small roads during the evening rush hour.
Friday’s protest in Karachi followed violent riots by protestors in Dera Ghazi Khan earlier in the day.
