ISLAMABAD, May 14: District Administration Islamabad (DAI) has not issued any official price list of consumers items to control prices, sources from the DAI told Dawn on Tuesday.
As a result, prices of consumer items vary in different areas of Islamabad with the traders fixing rates on their own.
In Rawalpindi authorities concerned not only issue official lists but also update them according to the need and availability of consumer items in the market.
Despite the setting up of a district price control committee Islamabad, the DAI has so far failed to check over-charging and tampering of scales by the retailers.
Due to the poor performance of the committee, the DAI has reportedly decided to reconstitute the body and include committed people in it so that prices of consumer items could be checked properly. Similar committees were functioning successfully in Rawalpindi city where prices of consumer items were much lower as compared to Islamabad, sources said.
A senior DAI official said: “We cannot stabilize prices in the capital because some of the retailers were located in expensive areas, and to meet their expenditures including shop rents, they charge higher rates from the consumers”.
