KARACHI, Jan 24: The torso of a woman was found on Saturday in the bushes at a desolate place in New Karachi.

The Bilal Colony police said that the torso was wrapped in a bedspread and found lying near the Masoom Ali Shah Mazar in Sector F-D.

It was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Hospital sources said that the doctors were unable to assess the age of the victim or her identity in the absence of her head and four limbs.

The police registered a case (FIR 20/2009) against unknown culprits under Section 320 (intentional murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) on behalf of the state.

Two shot dead

Two people were killed on Saturday in acts of violence in separate parts of the city. Witnesses said that a 25-year-old man was shot dead near his house at Rahimabad in Korangi No 3 ½.

The Zaman Town police said that the victim, Mohammed Umair, son of Mohammed Ayub, was a former worker of the Mohajir Qaumi Movement (Haqiqi).

They said that the young man was standing near his house when unknown culprits on a motorcycle shot him dead. The police said that the victim was an idler and he had not been doing anything for a living for the past many years.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for a post-mortem examination where the hospital sources said that the victim was shot a single bullet to his head from point-blank range and the bullet went through the skull.

The police registered a case (FIR 34/2009) against the culprits under Sections 302 (intentional murder) and 34 (common intention) of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s maternal uncle, Tanveer Ahmed.

The police said that the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal feud.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old worker of an oil company was shot dead at a close distance from his house in Shireen Jinnah Colony.

The Boat Basin police said that the victim, Abdul Mannan, son of Abdul Shakoor, was on his way on a motorcycle when unknown culprits opened fire on him near Sheeno Garage.

The body was shifted to the JPMC for an autopsy. Sources at the hospital’s medico-legal section told Dawn that the victim was shot two bullets in the upper torso.

The police registered a case (FIR 34/2009) against culprits under Sections 302/34 of the PPC on the complaint of the victim’s son, Abid.

The police said that it could not be ascertained if the victim was killed during robbery or over a personal enmity.

They said that the victim hailed from Peshawar and his family took the body to their hometown.

32 vehicles taken away

As many as 32 vehicles – nine cars and 23 motorcycles – were taken away by the evening on Saturday in different parts of the city.

Officials at the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee told Dawn that five cars were snatched at gunpoint within the limits of Azizabad, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Sir Syed Town, Taimuria and Sharea Faisal police stations.

They said that four cars were stolen in the jurisdiction of Clifton, Azizabad, Nazimabad and Taimuria police stations.

The officials said that nine motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint in the police precincts of Azizabad, Aziz Bhatti, Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Jamshed Quarters, Zaman Town, Saudabad, Bilal Colony and Taimuria.

They said that 14 motorbikes were stolen in the police areas of Saeedabad, Steel Town, Frere, Brigade, Soldier Bazaar, Awami Colony, Sharifabad, Saudabad, North Nazimabad, Kharadar, Preedy, Nabi Bux and Pak Colony.

Besides, the officials said, 10 mobile phones were taken away by the evening across the city.

They said that 47 vehicles – 14 cars and 33 motorbikes – and 71 mobile phones were taken away in different parts of the city on Friday. Of them, the officials said, three cars, 10 motorcycles and 27 mobile phones were snatched at gunpoint.
