ISLAMABAD, Jan 23: The Senate adopted on Friday a unanimous resolution assailing Israel’s barbaric attacks on Gaza, killing over a thousand innocent civilians, including women and children.
The resolution was moved by Leader of the House Mian Raza Rabbani.
In their speeches, senators severely criticised the so-called civilised nations, particularly the US, for silently watching the killings and destruction. They also slammed the inaction of the Organisation of Islamic Conference.
The resolution lauded government’s efforts to press the international community and the OIC to fulfil their responsibilities in upholding the rights of the people of Palestine. It urged the government to expedite supply of humanitarian relief to the people of Gaza and to forward the resolution to the United Nations, OIC and Arab League.
The resolution said the Israeli aggression had caused hundreds of civilian deaths and large-scale damage to property. “The Israeli aggression in Gaza has violated principles of the UN charter and international humanitarian laws, including the Geneva Convention. The Israeli policy of targeting the civilian population is tantamount to committing state terrorism.”
The resolution noted with deep concern the ‘pathetic inability’ of the international community, United Nations and the Arab and Islamic world to take effective actions at political, moral and legal levels against the Israeli invasion.
The resolution expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine in their just struggle for restitution of their legitimate and inalienable right to establish an independent Palestinian state with Al Quds as its capital.
Mr Rabbani, Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Ishaq Dar, Mushahid Hussain Syed, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli, Abdul Malik, Tahir Mashahdi and Justice (retd) Abdul Razzaq Thahim condemned the Israeli attacks and called for uniform application of international laws.
