WASHINGTON. Jan 20: Senator Edward Kennedy collapsed during the inaugural luncheon for President Barack Obama and was taken to a Washington hospital.

Barack Obama began his speech to lawmakers by talking about “Teddy”, noting it was a joyous yet sombre moment. “My prayers are with him and his family and Vicki,” referring to Mrs Kennedy. Senator Kennedy, 76, had undergone surgery for a brain tumour on June 2.

Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah told reporters that the senator was speaking to people when he was put on the stretcher.
