KARACHI, Jan 16: A lady doctor was shot at and wounded in a cellphone snatching attempt in the limits of Zaman Town police station on Friday night.

Hospital sources said that Dr Lubna was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre with a gunshot wound.

The suspects shot at the lady doctor when she reportedly resisted the snatching attempt near her house. She was being provided treatment at the JPMC.

However, when asked, a duty officer of the Zaman Town police station drew a blank over the incident, saying that they were yet to receive any such information.

In Mauripur, robbers shot at and wounded a young man on resistance.

Police said that Peter John was on his motorcycle when some youths of the area intercepted him outside a church and tried to deprive him of his cellphone and motorcycle. However, the suspects shot at him and took away his motorcycle when he tried to put up resistance. Later, the victim was rushed to the Civil Hospital Karachi. Sources at the hospital described his condition as critical.

Killed

Unidentified persons slit the throat of Amiran Bibi, 40, a resident of Qayyumabad. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. Police have registered an FIR and started an investigation. A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Sarwar, was shot dead in a market near his house in Gulshan-i-Maymar.
