KARACHI, Jan 14: Police are waiting for the final post-mortem report and record of cellular phone of a young domestic cook, who was found hanging from a tree in his employers’ house on Tuesday, to ascertain whether or not he had committed suicide.
The Defence police had booked the owner of the house, Arif Rashid, a marble trader, on Tuesday for killing his 20-year-old cook, Hakim Ali, son of Abdul Karim Samijo,
The investigation officer, Inspector Muneer Chandio, told Dawn that the victim’s uncle, who lodged the FIR against the marble trader, told the investigators that the victim had called him with his cellphone a night before and informed him that he had packed his belongings and was ready to leave his employers’ house as he feared that he would be killed.
“The complainant alleged that his nephew was killed by the marble trader as he (victim) wanted to marry the daughter of his employer,” he added.
The investigation officer said that the young man was found hanging from the tree with his feet touching the ground.
He said that there was no mark of struggle or torture on the victim’s body, suggesting that the victim hanged himself.
However, he said, the police were waiting for the final post-mortem report to find out if the victim had been sedated before he was hanged.
The IO said that the marble trader was not arrested, but he was being quizzed in this connection.
